Yesterday was Geoff's birthday, so we spent the day as he wished, as far as Babe and schedule permitted, and that included going out candlepin bowling.

Wow, isn't that a different sport from Big Ball bowling! We all had a great time, even though the first four or five frames were basically a wash because we were getting used to the shoes (how slippery do they really need to be?) and figuring out how to throw the ball differently than a big ball.

The surprise for me was that I actually got the highest score, probably because I didn't have Big Ball habits to quash. I might have even had the highest score had the bumpers not been up! ;-D

I also made Geoff a wheat-free carrot cake (from a Namaste spice cake mix) which was super yummy. We sang happy birthday and partook of its bounty before the babysitter arrived so we could go off to a church group meeting.

Sometime before all of the going out, however, I was browsing the flist and saw a friend had posted a video of Jacques Brel singing "Amsterdam". I listened/watched, and no-longer-cranky!Babe flocked over to see.

Um... yeah. I am SO glad that a) it's in French so he couldn't understand what was being said, and b) he can't read yet.

But the really amusing thing is that he LOVES the song. He listened to it several times while Geoff and I were around and then *blushes* showed his babysitter. Who speaks French.

Fortunately, she's 19 (and a UU), so the corruption factor isn't in place, but... Should he want to see that song again tomorrow, when the fourteen-year-old is babysitting, I will be sure that it's a version without the translation that's up. Just in case, you know.

What else? Oh yes, my hair!

Right after it was cut:

Next day:

And today (having slept on it damp and not re-wet it it):

Oh, and here's Geoff being silly with half of what was chopped off:

So, that was my weekend, more or less. I've also upped my Vitamin D and milk thistle dosages to fend off the February blues, and it seems to be working. Much more cheerful and less prone to anger. I even dealt with a nasty bathtime adventure involving lots of unpleasantness without yelling once. Though I did raise my voice a fair bit when the water started dripping through the ceiling ten minutes in. But otherwise, I was very constrained and did a very good job of being non-confrontational yet masterful. And I was told many times throughout that Babe loved me. And I even managed to tell him I loved him, disgusted as I was.

But. Now I need to go tackle the still huge pile of laundry and clean the bedroom and bathroom (oh god, must I?) and figure out what to do for dinner.

It looks great!

Yep, I'm in the midst of the cut or not-to-cut quandry myself.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that when I started growing it out my impetous was two-fold:

1. Because long hair is cheaper to maintain

2. Because the reptile brain in me thought I might want to have long hair if I was ever going to be a bride. It was 2007, I was in love, what can I say?

Now I am considering canceling my hair appt in a few weeks time because my car needs an oil change and they cost about the same. I have not missed a hair appointment in the five years since I returned from NYC. Let's just say, while I'll make it through March, the cash flow problem is seriously in need of a solution.
