'Bout bloody time!
Apr. 15th, 2010 11:24 amTea Party organizers are trying to distance themselves from the extremists.
I have a feeling it's a bit late in the game, though. And their denials about the racial slurs smacks of Vaticanism.
In a way, I hope they succeed. I do not agree with their views on taxation at all, but if that's what they really truly are about, then may they succeed in purging the hate rhetoric so they can civilly espouse their views.
(They're still insane and petty, however. J.K. says why better than I can.)

Date: 2010-04-15 04:05 pm (UTC)The Tea Partiers can try to distance themselves from racial slurs, but honestly, where were they and their screeds of fiscal responsibility when Bush was running into the trillion dollar deficits in the first place? This ain't about taxes, this is about people getting mad that the traditionally disadvantaged are encroaching on their advantage.

Date: 2010-04-15 04:40 pm (UTC)Oh, I agree completely. The whole movement smacks of a base of hate and fear, and not the individual fiscal kind.
I don't like paying taxes any more than the average person, but you know what? I would far rather pay taxes to promote an equal, healthy and wealthy* economy than keep my own my own and let everyone else suffer.
* The thing that bugs me the most about anti-tax propaganda is that the more even the distribution of wealth is, the more tax dollars there are which means the more services can be offered to its citizens which means happier citizens which makes more productive citizens which leads to a higher GDP which leads... etc. Do these people not see that?
