District 9
Jul. 23rd, 2010 01:23 amJust saw District 9.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
The only other thing I have to say, is that Ebert got it wrong. This was true sci-fi, not just "space opera." The movie's central issue is about humanity and what it is, and he really, truly seemed to miss it thanks to the very effective appearance of the aliens. Which were "loathsome and disgusting." (But no more so than the humans' behavior...)
Okay, I'll also say that the first half of the movie was way, way harder to watch than the shoot 'em up gore of the second half. Especially in light of Ebert's reaction (I consider Ebert a reasonably intelligent and thoughtful individual), as it makes it seem all the more believable a scenario.
I am queasy. I think that's a compliment, though.
