Aug. 9th, 2010 04:14 pmI am on my last load of laundry. I wish I could add the word "ever" onto that, but that would be naive in the extreme.
This is a rather large accomplishment, btw, as it was damn near every single piece of summer clothing (and a few cool weather items used out of laundry need rather than weather need) that got washed yesterday. That and finishing up the rinsing of all the linen closet goods.
I am now on the final rinse of the random things that didn't make it into the laundry yesterday because we were either wearing them, or didn't see them. And then I will dye a few items in that load. And then, after I wash out the laundry tub, I will be DONE!
Despite the fact that yesterday brought the bedroom floor into view again, this weekend was pretty frustrating. I had envisioned all sorts of cleaning getting accomplished - at least one room getting thoroughly cleaned - but then I came down with the stomach bug Babe had suffered on Friday. It was a pretty mild, short-lived thing, so I was feeling better on Sunday, but by then Geoff had come down with it. So I only did laundry rather than injure myself trying to do the heavy lifting by myself.
And... it's probably a good thing. As it was, by the end of the day I was so exhausted that I melted down a few times. Worst part of that was getting so wound up that I couldn't get to sleep until I took some melatonin. And seeing as I haven't yet woken up feeling rested after taking melatonin, it was a bitter end to the evening.
There's more to the meltdowns than that (a lot of which had to do with Babe acting like a baby for the entire weekend) but that's all I'll share.
One very bad thing about the weekend is that I didn't get the Overlarge Mural canvas stretched. I didn't even think of it until this morning. I will have to make the frame this week so that that it can be done quickly on Saturday (and not take too much time away from cleaning).
But, I will try to concentrate on the good things now. Like the fact that I am almost done with the laundry, including the boiling of the face cloths (because it just wasn't humid enough in the house today, noooooo)! Once folded, I won't have to think about them for a good long while (thank the hellishly hot dryer for that!), besides washing as needed.
Aeternitas! It's looking like I'll get to see a lot of you in person next spring! Ideas are being mulled, though they aren't quite ready to express... (Oh, and anyone willing to room with me? I don't bite or snore any more and I shut up when told to!)
Oat milk. Thanks to the soy, sugar, wheat, corn and dairy-free beverage, I have been able to indulge in a few cups of very rich, very much needed hot-chocolate this week. Honey has been a surprisingly nice sweetener.
A/C. God, I wouldn't survive here without it. Or, more accurately, Babe wouldn't survive without it. It's getting to the point where I can tell the relative humidity just by my mood. The crankier I am, the stickier it is. Anything over 70% and I am a class-A bee-atch. When a dry wind comes along, it is so easy to be bonny and blithe. Rain also works, but only as long as it is raining. (Granted, I would really like more rain. We really need it!)
Reason. Even while I was in mid-snit last night, I had a fair to good grasp of what was reasonable and what was out of line. I managed to toe the line, albeit barely and against my temper's inclinations, so there's little guilt to suffer today. (And I didn't have to clean up the little shards of the bowl I accidentally broke, as I did not deliberately smash the larger part onto the wall or floor!)
So. Those are the good things. I hope the week will get better from here on out, but if it doesn't, I can hope I'll at least be able to retain a modicum of sanity while it goes to pot.
Cheers!
