The good thing about being me...

is that when something needs to be said that is just outside of social norms, I can say it and people will think, "That Elizabeth..." Hopefully the phrase goes with an indulgent smile, though often I imagine it goes with an irritated roll of the eyes.
I'm not fond of embracing that aspect of myself, though, because while foot-in-mouth disease might not be deadly, it can be mighty, mighty uncomfortable. For me. And I am a selfish person. Which is why I usually choose silence over speaking up when I really need to.
But sometimes, things need to be said. And I am there, ready to offend by opening my mouth and saying what everyone else is too polite to say.
I'd like to think that at some point I will learn tact, grace and social mores, but I think I'm kidding myself. This is who I am.
