Lovely review for Marry A Choice (which finished posting 11.26.05):

"Hermione's middle name is JEAN NOT JANE"

I so want to respond, "O!M!!!G!!!!!! HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT?!?!?!?! I MEAN, I ONLY WROTE THE STORY TWO YEARS BEFORE JK CHANGED HER MIND!!!eleventyone!!!" but I won't.

It's really, really tempting, though.

It's raining out. That's good and bad. Good because it means it's finally warming up, and I am ready for the snow to be gone and the ground thawed. I bought seeds the other day, and now I want to plant them, darn it. It's bad because we still have a couple feet of snow on the ground and rain melts snow faster than sunshine does, and, well, flooding sucks.

Also, it's gray and miserable looking and really hard to get motivated to do anything.

I think I will indulge in a cup of honeyed caffeine and then start my chore-filled day.

First task: study the graphing of functions. It's the question I got wrong on my test (and I knew it at the time). I'm sure there's a website out there that explains functions better than the instructor did.

What an idiot reviewer. *sigh*

What part of graphing functions is the issue? *asks the resident algebra tutor*

Yeah. I wouldn't even object to the idiocy if she hadn't used caps.
(Damn, I need to upload that awesome P&P icon where Lydia is freeze-framed in mid-complaint with the caption being something like, "Why do mock my righteous indignation?"

Erm, basically all of it. I didn't review the process of graphing functions at all. Should do, though. *sheepish smile*

Ah, ok. I have a spreadsheet that shows a couple of really basic "graphing functions by plotting points" examples. If you're doing "graphing functions by transformation of basic functions" that would be a tad different, but I can (and probably should) make one up if that helps.

Ugh, forgot I can't attach a file here on LJ. I think I have your email, so I'll send it.

Makes you wonder sometimes if some readers even have a clue. It's not that hard to look at the dates on a story and figure it out. I loved that story BTW.

I recently got a review for a story I wrote where early on it was mentioned that several members of the Weasley family, including Ginny, were killed brutally four years earlier. This was mentioned several times throughout the story. Then a reviewer wanted to know why Ginny wasn't present at her son's deathbed, "did I miss something?" she asked. I was like Duh? Did she even read the first parts of the story?

Yeah, you do. I suppose for this reviewer it's a case of a new-to-her story, so posting date doesn't register, but, well, the bitchiness of leaving only that review and no other is rather galling.

In the case of your reviewer... Let's just hope she has memory problems? Though probably it's more a case of lack of reading comprehension. There's a lot of that around. :-/

I'm much more apt to review with her middle name is JANE not JEAN.

People have the same middle name all the time. All the time. It does not mean they are the same person (although, there is room for parallels there...)

But really, it's like - "With so many plot holes and math errors, you're worried about a middle name? Really?" (This being said to JkR, of course).

Heh! *points and laughs at the idiot!reviewer*

Definitely a good idea to check whether a fic predates DH before trying to do something like that. And even if it had been written after DH, it's still a pretty rude way to do it. That and some people prefer Jane to Jean for her, and go by JKR's interview rather than the book... I guess it's too much to ask for that sort of 'reviewer' to actually think about these things.

I'd leave a snarky reply... because capslock deserves it. *hugs*
