*headdesk*
May. 26th, 2011 05:56 pmNeighbor called the freaking cops on Page.
Page and Neighbor!boy spray painted each other (Page got it in the eye, Neighbor!boy got a bit more than that, but eyes were avoided).
Just to emphasize the ridiculousness of this, Page is six, Neighbor!boy is three.
I...
Yeah.
Neighbor is... getting eyerolls from more than me at this point. (And poor Neighbor!lady. Neighbor is ruining her life.)
However, I took advantage of the cops being here and asked them to talk to Page, reminding him that hitting (and spraying) is bad, mmm'kay? Maybe the authority of the uniform will help get the message through where the authority of Mom fails.

Date: 2011-05-27 10:01 am (UTC)I feel for Neighbor!Lady. She came over to apologize (and weep) after everything, and... I feel for her. I've come to see that her dingbattiness is a direct response to being married to him. It's what he expects of a woman.

Date: 2011-05-27 09:28 am (UTC)However, since he can't seem to let go of his grudge, I will be keeping a closer eye on his interactions with Page from now on. I don't think he'd hurt Page, but he's obviously not going to be reasonable where there's a problem, either.

Date: 2011-05-27 09:50 am (UTC)*hugs you back* I think Neighbor!Lady is the one who really needs the hugs, though.

Date: 2011-05-27 12:46 am (UTC)Did you offer to press charges, since Page was actually injured in the incident?
*dramatic eyeroll at your jackass neighbor*

Date: 2011-05-27 04:24 am (UTC)I think toddlers exist to challenge their mum's authority. I know Mariem challenges mine at least once an hour.

Date: 2011-05-27 09:39 am (UTC)Oh, I have authority, but Page does have trouble reining in his temper (I'm not counting this incident, as the more I think about it, the more I think the boys were just playing, no anger involved).
Neighbor is still harboring resentment toward me over our dust-up in December. (I think he can't stand that I was right about the man's business of home repair. (Not that he'll EVER admit that I was right.) /snark) He's now convinced that Page is out to get his son, conveniently forgetting that 90% of the time they play together pretty well, considering the age gaps.
Page isn't a toddler any more, I wouldn't say. But I think that is a kid's job description, too. ;)

Date: 2011-05-27 04:27 am (UTC)Seriously? That is ... yeah.
That said, I hope a chat with the cops will have some positive effect. But ... still.

Date: 2011-05-27 09:43 am (UTC)I figured it was a good opportunity, and the cop was very nice about it all. Poor kid was terrified, though. I had to reassure him, before taking him out for the chat, that he wasn't going to be taken away over this.
