Mosquitos bite
Jun. 5th, 2011 08:20 pmSo, on the good side of things, I got out into the garden and did about twenty minutes of weeding. Bad side is that it was next to the swamp, and therefore, I was feasted on.
And you know how I react to mossie bites.
However, I decided that I might as well do an informal experiment and document it with photographs. Here are the initial shots of the two worst looking bites:
Mossie bite 1, fifteen minutes after bite:

(Sorry for the lack of focus.)
Mossie bite 2, same time:

So, immediately after taking the photos, I drank approximately 5 grams of vitamin C in 1.5 glasses of water (say, 16 oz total).
Result:
1. They never really itched, even as they grew really, really angry looking.
2. Two hours later, here they are:
Mossie bite 1:

Mossie bite 2:

The pictures don't show it, but the swelling is still there. The irritation isn't, however!
Wow, people. Wow.
Granted, I think I overdid the vitamin C a bit, as my stomach isn't exactly happy with me at the moment, but a little heartburn+ beats dermatitis any day! (Especially since a handful of almonds helps relieve the burn almost right away.)

Date: 2011-06-06 02:14 am (UTC)I've heard a diet rich in B-vitamins also keeps mosquitos away, but I'm wondering if I should risk getting bitten for the sake of science. Husbandly one is left alone (O+) and I'm usually the main course (A-).
