"Richard Nixon, if he were alive today, might take bittersweet satisfaction to know that he was not the last smart president to prolong unjustifiably a senseless, unwinnable war, at great cost in human life...He would probably also feel vindicated (and envious) that all the crimes he committed against me -- which forced his resignation facing impeachment -- are now legal."

— Daniel Ellsberg

Yep, this country is insane (and idiotic in so, so many ways).

Yesterday was a nice, mellow day. I went up to the annual church retreat near Saco, Maine (Ferry Beach) with a couple of friends who were only going for the day. Page had said he didn't want to go in the planning stages, and then the morning of the trip, he changed his mind... until I told him it was likely to rain for most of the day. Then he thought karate sounded much better.

It was a wise decision; he would have been so bored because it did rain all day.

Anyway, I went because it was pretty much the last chance for the summer to play games with all my church friends for the summer. Everyone has such crazy busy schedules nowadays. I don't understand it, frankly. I do understand needing to give the kids something to do, but cramming up all your free time just seems counterproductive.

Of course, it could also be that I'm a low priority person in their eyes. ;-)

There was an incident during the day which makes me think most of my church friends are starved for drama and like to blow things way out of proportion like teenagers. It was rather uncomfortable to be in the midst of an intense gossip session, and reminds me why I try my best not to participate in that kind of thing. (Granted, I came home and told Geoff all about it...) Actually, during that session, I really wished Geoff had been there. He would have walked out to find the subject and talk with them to get the whole story. But he wasn't, so things were resolved in a kind of squiffy way. Not that they would have been resolved any differently had Geoff been there, mind. *sigh*

Anyway, I left for the beach while Page was at karate, and came back well after he fell asleep. So this morning I was greeted with a smile, a very sweet "I missed you," and another tooter attack, which led to lots and lots of giggling on both our parts.

He's been a joy to be around since the play finished. I think it's more than just that (my meds are now working very well, for example) but I think there was a large element of anxiety/rebellion related to his role in the play.

I hope to get some writing done today, though I'm not very hopeful, as Geoff has loaded the CD tray and, unlike with painting, I can not write with music going. *shrugs* Not that I'm objecting to the Bare Naked Ladies and Camper Van Beethoven, mind. :-)

Hope all your weekends were good.

I'm glad you got a break, even if it wasn't perfect, and that you are feeling better! *hugs*
