So, today was a pretty good day. Until 3:00, that is.

I managed to get Page fed, organized and out the door in time to catch the bus (have I mention how ridiculous it is that we live far enough away for Page to take the bus? Because, really? We live half a mile away from the school. Half. A. Mile. Four blocks).

I managed to remember to a) take the school gym doctor's permission form in to the doctor (and got my blood-work results at the same time. SED rate of 4! =), b) overcame my feelings of ridiculousness to go to bank and withdraw $5 for the bus, c) remembered to get a USB key off of Geoff, and d) get the car in to the shop and get to school with enough time leftover to look up the bus schedule for the return trip. All before 10:00.

I decided, in management, that every time my professor makes an anti-socialized medicine remark, I will make a counter argument (I started today, arguing that the incredible cost of training doctors, and the insurance companies' reluctance to pay for anything that isn't directly related to their client's care, meaning, teaching, is an argument FOR socialized medicine, whereas her argument against it was how the NHS doesn't cover lung transplants to those who smoke. Is that true or false, Brits? I am assuming it's true that those who haven't quit will be denied until they do quit, but that's just my guess, as that seems reasonable). I might even write my term paper on Taiwan's Health Care system. Or how Germany's system IS socialized, damn it (a previous biased example of hers of socialized versus market-driven (Greece vs. Germany)), which is how it has remained effective even while being mostly private! >:->

Then was computer lab, accounting style, which was dead-easy. However, because it was dead-easy, I had the time to ask a clarification question of the prof about subject matter he's going to cover tomorrow. And I was right. :-)

Then I managed to catch an early bus (by the skin of my teeth - I ran for it, looking like an ass as I did. Ach well) and so was a good half hour ahead of schedule...

Which I spent visiting with one of my choir mates, who isn't in choir regularly anymore because of health problems. She gave me more than half a dozen books on gardening and the like, and we chatted about health, chemo, pain and other fun stuff. It was actually a lovely visit.

And then I inadvertently picked Geoff up for lunch as I dropped off his USB key (and serendipitously found the one he'd bought for me ages ago).

And then I was one minute early for the bus bringing Page home, so I got to see him waving at me from the window of the bus and smiling up a storm. When he made it off the bus, he ran forward to give me a huge hug, yelling, "MOMMMYYYYY!!!"

Gratifying, that.

And then, halfway across the road, he told me he was on red today.

*sigh*

So, we went home and talked for close to an hour about what happened, why, and what could have been done differently. Like NOT FREAKING BITING ANOTHER STUDENT!!!!

The Golden Rule was mentioned. As was getting up and walking away from conflict (in six-year-old terms the other kid was definitely asking for it. However, that doesn't make his behavior right!). And the importance of listening! Ahem, I said, LISTENING!!! (Like that's going to sink in anytime soon.)

And, of course, I had to fill out the Yellow Form of Doom listing what's been done, going to be done and everything. I admitted I have no idea what to do about the (disruptive) gun sound-effects (seeing as I have no idea what the cause is, besides him being a boy), and if anyone has any ideas on how to stop or minimize it, I'm all ears.

So, bah.

And because he is talking my ear off with battles he's making up, I am going to go outside and start building my rock wall around the back tree. Or maybe mow the lawn... Yeah. I'll mow the lawn.

With the NHS and smoking and lung transplants, being a non-smoker, I don't know for sure. But I'd imagine if they needed a lung transplant they'd have to stop smoking, and stay that way or the transplanted lungs would go the same way.

That said, I'm pretty sure that the NHS covers liver and other issues caused by drinking, so most likely does the same with those caused by smoking.
