Up until 3:10pm, today was an excellent day.

- I got to read the comics before taking my accounting test, which I'm pretty sure I aced (or as good as aced), and which I finished before an hour was out, meaning I had a good four hours to myself when I got home.

- And then I got home to find heavy machinery was in my front yard, and a growing pile of roots was taking over the driveway! Yay!!! They took out at least 2 cubic meters of roots from our side of the yard, and that's only what I noticed. They were well on their way when I got home. Our yard is approximately four inches lower, now. They finished off the job by raking a couple of inches of topsoil on top. Yay!!!

- Then buzz and FB were entertaining and made me laugh, giggle and otherwise be happy.

- The sun was shining in a gorgeous, crisp, blue, fall sky.

- I even got some satisfactory painting done, even if the painting itself isn't finished.

Then Page came home, blithely told me he'd been called to the office, and ooh, wasn't that front-end loader cool?

It was a little more protracted than that, but not much.

In Page's folder, along with the note describing Page's assault on his fellow classmate, I found another note from the cafeteria. Seems Page is of Hobbit heritage, and has been getting his second breakfast at school. Meaning honey-nut cheerios, oatmeal with "sugar-free" maple syrup, and who knows what else. Oh, with apple juice (i.e. sugar in a bottle).

*restrains self from throttling child*

At least that explains the behavior and other shitty problems.

And... Arrrgh! The 504 plan from last year SHOULD rollover! But noooo, they need another doctor's note about the restrictions, and disregard our notes and such. Yes, this is a hellish diet for a kid to be on, but, well, when the child becomes a hellion when off the hellish diet, doesn't it seem reasonable to keep him ON it?

*huffs*

Besides which, it's what we as his parents decree, and we make sure to provide him with the food he needs (and it's quite obvious he isn't malnourished in any way, shape or form), so it doesn't seem all that unreasonable to expect them to abide by our wishes, does it? I mean, if we were Kosher, would they give him pepperoni pizza just for the hell of it?

ARRRRRRGH!

Anyway, his punishment so far has been to look up the word "restraint" in the dictionary (Geoff helped him way too much, in my opinion), and he is footing the bill for the food he's eaten. It has been made clear that any further bills will be footed by him, as well.

I don't know what else to do, though I am tempted to beat him (nothing else has worked, so far). I really don't think that will solve anything, though, especially this time, as it's so long after the event.

I... This is so discouraging and infuriating. And it's pretty much erased all the good feelings I'd gathered from the day.

I feel your pain on this. Max has been on a 504 since second grade and an IEP since 7th and getting the teachers to actually implement the d*&(&n things is . . . not fun. Good luck.

You'd think that they would leap on it, because when they don't, they have unruly or otherwise disruptive kids on their hands! But... I sometimes swear that teachers are the most closed-minded group of people, but that's not fair, and I know it. But...

Thanks! Good luck to you, too!

*shakes head at school foolishness*

By the way, did you hear anything about that strange "language skills" class?

Not yet. Everyone I've talked to about it thinks it's rather... odd, however. Geoff and I plan to bring it up at the parent teacher conferences in late November. (it's not like a month more of indoctrination, if that's what it is, will hurt Page any. Especially given how stubborn he is!)

I think it is negligent on the part of the school to ignore your instructions.

*hugs* I'm sorry your good day was ruined.

I think it's negligent and stupid. Thing is, I gather there have been major shake-ups in the school (it was recently designated a Title 1 (5? 8?) school, meaning it's failing the Every No Child Left Behind Act's tests in math and reading. Communication between everyone seems to be much more strained, and the paperwork... OMG. If being around kids all day every day didn't discourage me from becoming a teacher, the paperwork now required would! (Not to mention the total lack of autonomy.)

Anyway, the teachers are in a separate system from the cafeteria are in a separate system from the after-school program are in a separate system from the nurses office... etc., etc. The channels of communication at that school are not at all clear to me. All I know is if you want something, you need to talk to one of the receptionists.
