Good things vs grumps

Grump: I had to cook yesterday.
Good: I ate my nine cups of fruits and veggies. Granted, about six of them were kale, but, hey, I got in other good things, too! Like a good quarter squash (failed squash chips are still pretty yummy) and blueberries. And lettuce. Mustn't forget the lettuce.
Grump: Page was "ill". That is, he said he was ill, had a sore throat and doidn't want to go to school. He also napped for long enough yesterday that I allowed him to stay home, sacrificing my painting day.
Good: He felt enough better to go out with Geoff on a much-longer-than-expected errand.
Grump: He came home with a rash all over his torso. He is asleep now (probably due to the dose of benadryl I gave him to rule out allergies for the cause of the rash) so I can't check his throat for strep. *wibbles* (Please don't be scarlet fever!)
Good: The errand, while fruitless on one hand, ultimately turned out to be successful!
Which brings me to the biggest grump: The computer was acting up, as in, the fan was running on high under no stress whatsoever. I decided that the only thing other than a virus (which kept coming up a no) that could possibly be a cause was dust. So, I watched a video on how to clean the CPU fan and turned off the computer. That was at about noon.
Good news - I was right about the dust. Oh. My. Lord, was there dust. It was packed onto the heat sink, fan blades, and then there were the dust jackals just lounging around randomly. So, I did as the video instructed, pushed up my sleeves and got everything clean.
Then it came to putting it back together. Which proved to be a bit tricky as it had kind of popped apart on me when I went to remove the heat sink from the fan, and I hadn't noticed what those four tiny screws were attached to. Oops.
But, I eventually got it together, and reconnected everything and turned it on and... The lights came on, but no one was home.
To make an agonizingly boring long story short, I fucked up the CPU. Oops. (This is why I say Geoff is in charge of the computer and the car. When I do anything to take care of either of them, it usually ends badly.)
So anyway, Geoff ended up taking a personal day as he straightened all the bent prongs on the CPU and then went to look for a new CPU (figuring that I had killed that CPU with static) and bird poop (thermal paste) of which he only found bird poop.
BUT! His prong straightening had been successful, and the CPU managed to pop into place, so when he applied the bird poop, reassembled everything and turned on the computer, IT WORKED! Praise be to allah!
And we've tested it, and so far no problems! Yayayayayayay! So even though I committed an ID10T error, the fates were kind and spared us the search for an ancient CPU to replace this one. Plus having a technically competent husband who can work miracles is awesome.
And that is why the good things win.
Oh, that and I made another batch of pumpkin gingerbread.

Date: 2012-01-31 03:01 am (UTC)And my friend's son had scarlet fever last week. Turns out it's no problem in the modern era (I'd only heard of it in old novels although I had a vague memory of having had it as a child) and just needs antibiotics, it's basically strep with a rash. He was sick Thursday and missed school Thurs/Fri and I saw him today and he was bouncing around and perfectly fine. So there's that. :)

But frankly, it's hard to imagine scarlet fever as being anything serious when I see and hear Page happily bouncing around with his legos. So maybe I'm wrong?

Date: 2012-01-31 08:06 pm (UTC)PS I'm a bit of a perfectionist but have decided to forgo worrying about made-up words, mashed up punctuation, and iffy grammar in favor of Actually Communicating With People. Because I miss you guys!

Date: 2012-01-31 08:12 pm (UTC)YAY! We missed you, too! And I think we are all guilty of committing SPAG errors now and again, so consider yourself in good company!

Date: 2012-01-31 07:45 am (UTC)This reminds me that I think I ought to open up my computer case and remove the dust, too. It's been getting irritatingly airplane-like lately.
I hope Page doesn't have anything serious.

Date: 2012-01-31 03:07 pm (UTC)It has been nice and quiet since, however! It didn't even rev up when I was playing an online jigsaw puzzle!
Well, whatever he has isn't getting him too down, that's for sure. He's bouncing around the house as if he were on vacation. If it weren't for the sore throat and rash... And the miserable night...

Date: 2012-01-31 03:12 pm (UTC)On the plus side, he's a happy little kid, bouncing around the house as if nothing were wrong. And as if he hadn't had a miserable night...
Yeah. It was a good reminder of why I do leave the computer maintenance to Geoff. *headesks* XD
