Michele Bachmann, who quit the presidential race last month, has said that scrapping the minimum wage could "potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely, because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level."

She's right, of course. But what that doesn't address is the fact that underemployment is a much more serious issue in the US than unemployment is. If you have a job paying $7.25 and work 40, or even 50, hours a week, you do not have enough to feed yourself (well enough to stay healthy), let alone have any disposable income. And disposable income is what's needed to support the freaking economy!

(And it's interesting to note how Romney is already shifting tactics to get the more moderate independent and disaffected liberal vote come November. Wonder if it's going to back-fire in the nomination process.)

Isn't there some plan for a floating libertarian island already out there? It would be so awesome if that would come to fruition, if only to see how the social experiment would turn out!
