I hate allergies. The tissue around the sclera of my right eye (aha! The bulbar cunjuctiva!)is so swollen it bulges up in either corner as I move my eye to the left or right. It's really gross.

Today is Page's first day of 2nd grade. And it was a wonderful morning! He got up before me, got dressed, packed his lunch, and was really quite compliant in coming to eat breakfast, brushing his teeth and even putting on his lace-up sneakers!
(How long will this last?)
There was plenty of time to spare, which meant he got to play with his Legos, and I got to read my email. Win-win!
*
I didn't sleep very well last night. Geoff got trapped in a work site (rather literally: timer-set motion detectors kept him confined to the room he was working in), so I was worried about him. Not very worried, but enough to make my short night of sleep somewhat restless.
*
I don't want to re-read CoS. It's too embarrassing.

The GOP keep putting their feet in their mouths where rape/abortion/women are concerned. I do wonder about any woman who votes for that party. I know there are individual Republicans who aren't misogynists, but to support a party that has such a backward platform is... mind-boggling. There needs to be at least one other party, one that's for fiscal matters only and won't be highjacked by religion.
Granted, I'm kind of glad there isn't one, because it seems that most of the "fiscally responsible" plans out there are only good for short-term (immediate) prosperity, but would lead to long-term deficits.
Related: When I came back to the US from Canada, the first thing I noticed was that the roads here are terrible, comparatively. It really felt like I had come to a poorer nation. And, in many ways, we are a poorer nation. Our wealth certainly isn't where we the people can see or use it. And that annoys me. After all, how can we expect to be able to compete in a global market if our infrastructure is falling apart? How can we attract good employers (who pay well) if we don't have a well-educated populace to support their growth? We've invested so much money into military maneuvers that we've left the population to fend for itself. All in the name of "protecting" us, too.
Bah.
I don't want to live in an empire. And you know what? We don't have to be #1. The world will not fall apart if we're not there tobully protect it. And we citizens might actually be better off if the nation's policies weren't aimed at keeping us as the world power. (Though there probably would be hell to pay for at the pump should we lose that status. Though that would at least be motivation to really invest in green technology!)

On the other hand, tea is good.

Oh! And I got my blood test results back, and I passed with flying colors! I'm not anemic anymore! My platelet levels are stable. My sed rate is low, my cholesterol, liver and kidneys are perfect. I'm perfect!
I got a hug from my primary doctor because I'm doing so well (which was obvious even without the test results). She was just so thrilled to see me healthy.
I do need to exercise more, however. But I'm getting there. Now that Page's school has started, I hope to be able to get into a routine. Although really, the routine won't begin until I start school next week. But a routine there will be! (she says with determination and hope?)
And, speaking of routine, I should go do something. Either finish cleaning (I want this house clean before I start school!), read CoS, nap or art (yes, I am verbing that noun).
Oh. And I need to remember that it's Tuesday, not Monday. *nods*
Cheers!

Date: 2012-08-28 07:24 pm (UTC)I hate feeling so tied to the Democrats. I grew up with the ideal of being tied to neither party and voting on an entirely case-by-case basis, picking a party for primaries only and signing a card to go back to unaffiliated on the way out the door. First the state of CT's party affiliation rules made that more problematic, and then the Republicans have gone so far off the deep end that I can't even contemplate voting for any of them. I'd rather vote Green, but I'm terrified of splitting the Republicans' opposition and letting them win. Bleh.
