An article about a teacher who needs to be fired. Any teacher who bullies, humiliates or otherwise picks on a student, especially for a (relatively benign) political view, needs to not be in a position of power.

In other bleh news, the car came back from the "check engine light" class, and... there were three codes with $700 of parts (PARTS, not labor) required to fix it.

Soooooo... I guess we'll be test driving cars this winter. I think. What with that, the alignment/axle issues and how the body is getting to be in pretty bad condition, so I really don't think the car is worth that kind of money (especially because I'd have to add in the cost of renting a car to get around while the car's being repaired).

*sigh* On the one hand, it will be nice to have a car that has four working windows again (and isn't dropping interior parts every other week), but on the other, it means we won't be getting out of debt in the near future like I hoped we would be.

Ach well. It is a 13-year-old car. Possibly even 14-year-old, depending on its issuing date.
That's pretty darn old for a car. Especially in an area that salts the roads. No matter what the mileage.

In good news, I'm feeling way better. Still don't know what's up, though I've been staying away from chilies, bananas and almond butter just in case any of them are the culprit. I tried staying away from tea, but... well... yeah. I'm an addict. So sue me.

Also in good news, the house smells wonderful from the pumpkin muffins I just made. Now I need to go finish baking the rest of the batter, put everything away, pack up a bunch of food for us and clean up before we leave for Boston. (Oh yeah, that's another good thing: we're going to see some friends, and M and I will be going to Ikea this evening! Page's big birthday present is waiting there...)

So, hope everyone's having a good weekend!

Urk.

Our 13-yr-old car is just coming up for its roadworthiness test, and I have my fingers crossed. I'm going to book it into the garage next week to get it checked over before the test.

It would be so nice if we didn't actually need them, wouldn't it?

I'm glad you're feeling better.

Oh, and that teacher really should be disciplined for that kind of behaviour. Much as the thought of a President Romney terrifies me, the whole point of democracy is that everybody has a voice - even those who disagree with us. That girl is going to grow up with a very poor opinion of Democrats - all Democrats - thanks to that one irresponsible teacher.

Yeah. Well, I hope your car passes the test with flying colors. Out of curiosity, is it a diesel engine? And how has it been on the repair front? VWs here have been reported as kinda sketchy on reliability.

Wouldn't it be lovely? When I lived in Chicago, I didn't need one. It was wonderful.

*hugs you*

Exactly. I don't think Romney would ruin this country, but, good god do I NOT want him in office. Publicly mocking someone supporting him is not going to help in any way whatsoever. "In a free society it is safe to be unpopular."

Regarding the car, it's mostly been pretty reliable, except on the two occasions when it really, really hasn't. One was the lambda probe failing, the other was an electrical thingummy that came and went - it took the garage three or four days of trying to make it fail. Oh, and both window motors have needed replacing over the course of time.

For thirteen years, that's not bad. Though that electrical failure could have been a dangerous one.

In terms of the engine's reliability, I have no complaints. Other repairs have been to do with wear and tear and age. But VW parts are expensive.

In Europe, VW have the reputation of being reliable, incidentally.

That teacher is horrible. Political bigotry of that sort is inexcusable. Needs to fired and have their teaching license taken away.

Sorry about your car but 13-14 is a ripe old car. Cars are no longer made to be durable, only disposable.

Glad you are feeling better.

Isn't she? And dumb. Talk about not thinking of the consequences of one's actions!

Yeah. I'm hoping to make it last to 16, but we'll see. So far it's cheaper (over three years) to repair than buy, so I guess we'll do that.

*hugs* Thanks! Hope things improve for you soon.
