Frankenstorm is coming!

I shall not mock the Fates and tell the truth about how utterly and completely worried I am. Suffice to say, we have not been part of the rush on the stores, or even (due to long lines and impatience) gas stations.

I suspect "Sandy" (Frankenstorm's official name) will be very much like Irene was last year, which was more bluster than muster up here. Unfortunately (although I can understand the reasoning), the school district has decreed tomorrow to be null and void. So yay. Page gets an extra long weekend. I don't get any.

Anyhoo. I have warned Page that I will be telling him to get out of my face for a few hours at some point tomorrow, as I do rather need to do some school work... Like study for my next test. On Tuesday. Friday's test was abysmal, even if I do get partial credit for what work I managed to cobble together. (I didn't understand one of the freaking questions! To offer some excuse, I went in feeling crappy and muddle-headed. It sure was a far cry from the lucidity I had the night prior when I was studying. Bah.) So studying a little more thoroughly for this test, even though it's for the easier class, would be a good idea. I think.

Of course, I will be studying for the test assuming my college will not be canceling classes. Because it doesn't cancel classes unless it's actually proven to be dangerous out there. Though, of course, it is at the prof's discretion...

ION, last night I had a rather awesome dream about going to Andy Everson's house/studio to ask him a couple of questions. His house and studio were really, really cool, with multiple levels and filled with gorgeous, GORGEOUS furniture that he'd made. (Note: he's a painter, not a carver. As far as I know. He does collaborate with furniture makers, however.) While the visit was full of awkwardnesses and faux paux (what is the plural of 'pas', anyway?), it ended with me asking him if it would be insulting or otherwise rude for me, a white girl from Colorado, to use the western coast's tribes' art style in my own work. He was really cool about it.

I also asked if he would be willing to teach me how to carve. His designs and craftsmanship were so refined, he made the freaking door jambs look like art. The dream ended before I got an answer.

Makes me want to look for a woodworking/carving teacher. Maybe after my summer trips are done, I'll look for a class as well as employment.

In less inspiring news, Geoff and I may have reverted back to the plan of replacing the car sooner rather than later. There really is something wrong with the front suspension. And the transmission is getting clunkier and more reluctant, too. Those two things, added to the list of things that we know are wrong, might actually negate the financial favor of keeping it. But, I don't know. It's still rather up in the air.

But, to end on a good note, I'm rewatching "Slings and Arrows" and reminding myself about what a wonderful show it is. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, do!

Also, because political season is (fiiiiiiinally!) coming to an end, I thought I ought to report that Joss Whedon has put in his figurative oar and endorsed Romney:

Planning to. Of course, the absolute worst that could happen to us is that the tall, skinny oaks in our backyard get blown onto our roof, and our basement floods. The far more likely scenario is that our basement floods a bit because the neighbor's sump pump is turned off (I don't know that it is even turned off).

We're on the nearest hospital's grid, so unless there are downed lines (highly unlikely without snow, which isn't forecast), we shouldn't even lose power for more than a couple of hours at the most.

Nah, we're not really in any danger. It's those poor souls on the coast that are going to suffer the worst of this. And the people on the shores of the Great Lakes. 22-24 foot waves on Lake Michigan, with the south shores getting the worst of it! Yikes! *hopes Chicago flisters don't have shoreline property*
