I really do spout off on things about which I know naught, don't I? If Gareth doesn't catch chickenpox before his check-up next month, he is going to be getting that vaccine. No way I want him subjected to this hideous, evil, horrid, painful (recurring) virus if we can prevent it. I'm still relieved it isn't cancer, Lupus or Smallpox (that would suck, wouldn't it? not only would I probably die, but I'd get media attention while I do it) but the pain hadn't set in yet when I wrote that post.
I guess it's a chickenpox year again, so beware out there. Stay stress free, and buck up your immune systems!

Date: 2005-10-14 04:03 pm (UTC)You can catch CP from shingles, but you can't catch shingles if you haven't had the pox. I gather they don't know much about the reasons for shingles outbreaks, but I suspect it's similar to CP, flu and other viruses in that some years the viruses or triggers are worse than other years. I've talked to someone else around my age who's had shingles this year, and I gather she doesn't have the compromised immune system I have.
Anyway, if you notice any pain followed a couple days later by a (painful) rash, go to the doctor immediately.
