So... What is the rest of the world (namely European countries other than France or Britain) saying about getting into Syria, anyway? Because, from a US article I read (it seems I don't know the special linkies to find non-US articles/domains even in the foreign news providers), I am rather displeased to find I'm in agreement with Putin of all people.

“I do not exclude this, but I would like to draw your attention to one absolutely key aspect: In line with international law, only the U.N. Security Council can sanction the use of force against a sovereign state. Any other pretext or method which might be used to justify the use of force against an independent sovereign state is inadmissible and can only be interpreted as an aggression,” he said.

Not that it really matters what the rest of the world is saying, where US action is concerned.

*sigh*

Off we go again.

The British parliament went against the Prime Minister's wishes and voted against military action against Syria. Apparently we are working hard in humanitarian aid. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of the G20.

Err... to be honest?

Ah well, I'm not sure that there is such a thing as international law, so much as international making it up as we go along.

What can you do? Intervening will probably make it worse. Doing nothing means people die horribly.

^this.

That the UN won't/can't do anything doesn't really answer the question about whether something should be done, because most people see it as a moral issue rather than just a question of "international law".

But then, in practice, I agree with Shiv that it's really a no win situation...

*shrugs*

The Germans want nothing to do with the whole thing. Frankly, they have blood money in their wallets, as big trading partners of Assad. The biggest and richest country in Europe has its head stuck in the sand all the way to China.

No one in France wants to attack Syria - except idiot Hollande and a few of his minions.

I'm very displeased to find myself in agreement with Putin, but yes - he's right.

I note that up to now there's no proof whatsoever Assad did it. Many people say it's the "rebels" who did it, and in truth they had something to gain, while Assad had nothing to gain and everything to lose.

And how on earth are we going to help the civilians by bombing them?

I'm also disgusted by the thick, cloying, overwhelming emotional discourse of the mainstream media. Truth doesn't need that much propaganda.
