1 Hot chocolate or Egg nog? Depends who's making it. If it's store bought/mix stuff, then hot chocolate, definitely. Homemade... much more difficult decision. 5 When do you put your decorations up? Around the 14th.
6 What is your favourite Holiday dish? Prime rib roast the way my mum makes it. Otherwise, yorkshire pudding.
7 Favourite Holiday memory as a child? My dad's waffles after opening all the presents.
8 When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? When I was seven, I decided to do an experiment. I set up an impromptu Christmas tree in my room (with a green coat... hey, Santa would know it was supposed to be a tree) the night before Christmas, hiding it from my parents as best I could. (It was the Christmas tree for my stuffed animals presents.) When nothing was underneath it in the morning, I knew.
9 Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve? No.
10 How do you decorate your Christmas tree? White and colored lights, with as many of my childhood ornaments as will fit. There are some nice, plain red glass balls that go up on stand-by, if there's room left over.
11 Snow! Love it or dread it? Depends where. It's very pretty when it's fresh, but around here it's likely to stick around till April, and gray/black snow is just plain icky.
12 Can you ice skate? Used to.
13 Do you remember your favourite gift? Clover, my stuffed horse (and it's a horse, dammit, NOT A DONKEY!) I still love Clover, although Floppy was a close second. (I really did love my stuffed animals fiercely. They were my allergy friendly pets.)
14 What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Showing my love.
15 What is your favourite Holiday dessert? Trifle. Preferably the alcoholic version. Mince tarts are good, too, though. And my mum's fruitcake is delicious, although it makes my throat itch.
16 What is your favourite Holiday tradition? Baking up a storm, then eating it (a little too quickly).
17 What tops your tree? A (tarnished) silver and blue bead star right now, though I'm on the look out for a pretty angel (that won't overwhelm my 4' tree).
18 Which do you prefer: giving or receiving? Depends. Giving, if I know the people well enough to know what will give them joy. But receiving is pretty cool, too. ;-)
19 What is your favourite Christmas song? "Carol of the Bells," especially if sung a capella (though the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's version is damn good, too). "It Came Upon a Midnight Star" is a close second.
20 Candy canes! Yuck or yummy? The cinnamon ones are yummy, but even they get a little cloying.
21 Favourite Christmas movie? Don't know. Used to love "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," but have since outgrown it. "Elf" is very good. *shrug* Don't watch many Christmas movies, really.

You need to watch more holiday movies, there are some great ones, not the least of which is Muppet Xmas Carol.

Charlie Brown Xmas - boy were they Xtian back then, but catches the wonderful melancholy of the season
Miracle Down Under - a PBS Victorian Australian Xmas. Features a fabulous roasted pig scene. Haven't seen it in years, but I used to find it highly amusing.
Holiday Inn - ever wonder where White Xmas came from? Now you know. A wonderful dance musical if you can overlook the Black Face president's day routine.
How the Grinch Stole Xmas
Meet Me In St. Louis - the origins of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas" a song that makes me weep, since it and the movie came smackdab in the middle of a World War. Very long. Very technicolor. Very Vincent Minelli. Not strictly a Xmas movie, but worth watching some day.
Miracle on 34th Street - How lucky is that little girl to get her a house and a dad all at once. The famous courtroom scene with all the letters from Santa. A classic.
Xmas films are kind of sappy. Thanksgiving movies have a lot more bite. There are also anti-Xmas movies, but no favorites are springing to mind.
Also - one of my all time favorite films is a new year's tradition for me: Hudsucker Proxy. If you haven't seen this film, you really should.

Date: 2006-12-06 12:54 am (UTC)Hmm... Bishop's Wife (original; Cary Grant beats out Denzel Washington any day, no matter how fine DW is), Meet Me in St. Louis and both Miracles I'll have to add to the list.
Oh, and reading your list reminded me of a Christmas movie I really enjoyed: "The Ref." I really like Denis Leary's biting humor, though. A Christmas movie that isn't overwhelmingly sappy, but still remains in the spirit (mostly).
