One of the many resolutions I decided to make, despite my better judgment, is to create and finish at least one relatively major piece of art (i.e. something that requires a sketch, but not the sketch itself) a week (any medium). The portrait of my dad was week 1's painting.

And so, with apologies to [personal profile] mundungus42 (I have NOT forgotten my promise of a birthday fic! It's just... stalled at the moment), here is week 2's piece:

Kindred

"Kindred"
Graphite sketch colored and finished with GIMP

Scene from "She Was Beautiful to Him."   This is the scene that has stuck with me ever since first reading the story, albeit I remembered it slightly differently, so this isn't quite how I envisioned it. *shrug*

I hope you like it, Kel!

One of these days I'll actually read the manual for GIMP so that I can use it more effectively.

Ooh! Haven't read that story, but I love the style you've used here...very effective and interesting.

Thank you! I'm not surprised you haven't read it as it's an SS/HG story. :-) This whole digital art thing is weird. My works are coming out so... graphic. Very odd.

I'm speechless. It's beautiful!! Thank you so much! I love her hair, and how you can't see his eyes, because they're in shadow. His posture and the light on his sleeves are great. And you showed her fist with the paper in it! *squee ... dies of happiness*

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yay! Glad you like it! I'll email it to you for your own personal use, once you give the okay (don't want to overload your inbox, not that it's overly huge or anything).

You are very welcome!

Please, feel free to send it over!

How did you do it? Was it all on the computer, or were there some pencil/paper aspects to it, as well?

I love this, Avery. I can feel his silent vigil - and I can see the paper in her clenched hand!

Cheers! Yeah, I decided, after numerous sketches, that showing her clenched fist would be more effective than her outstretched hand that he holds, though that sure appealed to my romantic sensibilities!
