Ranty rant rant )

In better news, I have managed two days of bicycle riding in a row. Yesterday's ride was far more enjoyable, mainly because it was drier out, so it was far more comfortable, but also because Page was less grumpy. Well, Page and my muscles. However, despite my muscle protesting ("WTF!?! We just did this yesterday!"), I managed the two miles in about 5 minutes less time today than yesterday (10 minutes instead of 15). And I managed to push myself to go a full mile before taking a water stop.

Page was an absolute stinker, though. He even lied about how many laps he'd done. grr.

I think I will probably take tomorrow off where riding is concerned, and do some digging, instead. My backyard, especially around the veggie beds, is looking rather unkempt. I'd like to have a tidy yard going into winter, which, happily, is not that far away.

This morning, when I stepped outside, I stepped right back in to get a jacket. A very light, canvas jacket to be sure, but it was actually cool enough that my shorts and cap sleeve T-shirt were not going to be enough! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Summer is ending! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

Tomorrow morning I don't have to be anywhere. So tomorrow morning, I will get up reasonably early, eat breakfast and get out into the garden in my bug-suit while it's still cool enough to work.

*squees again*

Anyway, that's about it. I think I'm probably going to go read the rest of the day away, as there's nothing else that's pressing for my attention. I probably should read the first chapters of my textbooks (the big one arrived today), but I think I'll finish off Cannery Row, instead. :-D

  • After trying to read chapter 46 of Semantics three times and zoning out each time with a shrug, I think I'm going to give the rest of the story a miss.  Snape is too... unremittingly unreasonable AND pathetic.  Way too close to the worst of DH canon for my taste.  And Hermione is... she just is.  She isn't the main character and although she seems fairly reasonable and likable, I just can't bring myself to care, except to think that she's better suited to Draco and deserves a hell of a lot better than that Snape.  Assuming coffeeonthepatio ever does put them together.  Draco was the only one worth reading about, and he's off the charts OOC now that he's gone all sappy with Aideen.
  • This is worth checking out.  It's a talk on TED by a brain specialist about her personal experience with a stroke. Very moving.
  • I made brownies to go with my tea today.  I overcooked them slightly, so they would be better with whipped cream and berries, but they're still mighty good alone.  (I know I posted a link to these previously, but it seems I didn't tag it, and I can't be bothered looking for it.)
  • I really need to start exercising again.  I hate, loathe and despise the chest-and-leg raises - which I term the quartered-airplane (exercise 6).  The full airplane is even worse, and that's basically what I've got to look forward to as I progress.  Should that ever happen.  (/well founded cynicism)  Instead of running in place, which is one of the many ways I've injured myself over the last ten months, I do heel lifts (walking in place without foot leaving the ground).  Or, at least I will, next time I actually start exercising.  I also do squats instead of hops, for the same injury-reducing reasons.  (It's actually a lot more difficult to fit all of those into the *checks* 3 minutes allowed? Hell.  That's easy.  For now.  (I thought it was 2 minutes)
  • I have been indulging in Ezekiel 4:9 (which Babe can eat) toast this past week, and my skin is a mess because of it.  Itchy, nasty eczema for the fail.  I suspect the lentils even more than the barley.  I shall abstain henceforth.
  • I had an intuitive math win yesterday at the store. It was a cash only store (Costco), and while I had counted up the cost of the bigger ticket items (meat) in my head (2/3 of my cash), I just estimated the rest.   I had four dollars to spare when all was said and done.

Aaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnd, considering I just spent an hour and a half on this post when I should have been exercising, sanding, cleaning, napping or playing with Babe, I think I really ought to go.  *sheepishly waves*

Cheers!

Geoff and I are finally making progress on the patio. My body and the weather kind of worked against me this week, but today is absolutely beautiful, Geoff is home - for a while, anyway - and we have a plan. Mostly.

While we are at it, we're filling in a low spot in the yard. That required us to take up a lot of grass sod, and hopefully, when we put it back at the end of the day and water it, it will reestablish itself. If not, we'll have to seed it after we get back from Buffalo.

And this is all a lot of exercise. Which is good. Except that my ankle still hurts from the other day when I figured out that the jumping portion of the exercise program is Bad for me (I have since converted to crouches. Which are haaaaard). But I didn't do the exercises today figuring that working on the patio would more than suffice for today (and very possibly tomorrow, too. Hell, maybe the rest of the week).

But, now that lunch is over, I should probably go out and get back to it. Still have about 8 cubic feet of rocks and dirt to sift and move.

Joy.

I am positive I will be pleased when the patio is actually done, but I think I really would rather be writing.

Right. This week, I really have to get working.

Revised list )

I'm actually exercising! )

Anyway, life's pretty good. Suicidal friend went back to NY to stay with his mom, which is excellent. He had virtually no support up here, so I'm happy he made that choice. It bodes well for him.

We had a busy weekend. Saturday we went to a friend's son's birthday party. Babe was the only other child there (thank goodness!) and the two boys had a blast, mostly in the pool. We were both pretty zonked by the time we got home. Then yesterday we went back to Boston to meet up with an old college buddy of Geoff's who then took us sailing on the Charles. The wind was pretty low, which, to my mind, was an excellent way of introducing Babe to sailing. (Babe also got to steer for a good long while, as well!) Again, we were all pretty tired by the time we got home, but it was good. Although I did need a nap this morning to recover.

Oh, and a bonus to yesterday was that I learned how to kill the two flies that have been bugging the hell out of me without a fly-swatter. Rubbing alcohol! It blinds them and makes them easy targets. (Normally I would feel bad about such cruel actions, but these flies have been REALLY annoying for the last week. Ylech!)

So. Life's pretty good. Getting better, anyway. Yay!
