Well, I was going to post this much earlier in the day, but either LJ or my modem was freaking out, preventing a connection to LJ. Or killing the connection I had. :(

Anyway, the skinny is...

When the Babe's asleep, the mom will play. Even if she is worried about her baby. Sleep is a powerful curative, however, so as long as he's breathing, I'm not going to mess with it. Yet. Another day or two of this, however, and it's off to the doctor. (Babe's been asleep for the last 4 hours or so, after being up for about 3. He's been very sniffly and mildly out of sorts, so I know he's sick, but... Perhaps he's growing as well? He has been eating quite a bit...) He ended up sleeping for about 5 hours. He used to take long naps, but even five hours was long for him, and it's been many months now since he slacked off the naps in general.

Found that and snickered. I was talking to a couple of my neighbors and mentioned that I don't tan; I get a permanent pink. They said I could always go to the tanning salon, and my white legs would bronze up quite nicely.

I didn't say anything, though perhaps I should have, but what immediately ran through my mind was, “Why would I do that to myself?”

I'm already at high – very, very high – risk for skin cancer thanks to a couple very, very bad sunburns in my youth. Why would I subject myself to MORE radiation? Do they really think it's harmless (which is why I should have perhaps spoken up)? Is baring brown legs really that important?

Geez.

I am so not up with the cultural norms.

Oh, and I just noticed, “She Married Her Choice” is a featured story over on OWL! Squee!

And... oh, there was something else. Oh, yeah. Today was nice and coolish, so I took advantage and used it to bake up the squash that was yellowing on the shelf and, beyond that, made one squash pie. It looks kind of funky as the froth was baked in place, but I think it'll probably be good. Might be a bit oversweet, as I added almost all the sugars called for, but...

And the reason I am up right now instead of fast asleep as I wish to be is that I forgot, when I went to my knitting group at 7:30, that I had bread rising and just about ready for the oven when I left. Oops. Needless to say, it fell. So, when I got home at 11 (WOW, that was a long meeting! But lots of fun!) I punched it down and reshaped it.

Now, three and a half hours later, it might just be done.

So, I shall now leave thee and hie myself to bread and bed.

People who live closer to sea level don't always understand the risks. We're at a much higher risk and incidence of sun-related skin problems at a higher altitude.

I tend to brown in the summer after repeated exposure. I wear sunscreen and burn quickly without it. I'm currently looking for a big hat as I'm starting to discover some 'fine lines and wrinkles' that someone my age at a lower altitude might not have.

I use a self-tanner to even up my arms when I have to wear something sleeveless. It works pretty well, but seems a little silly. (I bought it for a wedding in which I wore a strapless dress.

However, the sun is also a catalyst for nutrients, so it's important to get a little.

Tanning salons will be one of those things that no one in the future will be able to understand.
