Six years ago today...
Jun. 22nd, 2008 12:13 pmIt was a hot and smoky day; the clouds were tinged with pink. Even though it was still early, sweat was starting to bead.
I checked my dress one last time before taking my dad's arm and left the house's front door. We watched as my sister and Geoff's cousin walked up the white runner set upon the green, green grass.
My dad and I made our way to the isle as the flower girl and ring bearer made their way up the white sheet, and fear, pure fear, set in. Fortunately, the two little kids, decked out in their finest, saved the day.
The thick, luxuriant grass and light, white runner combined to trap the children's small feet. They struggled valiantly, wading through the white morass as though it were a swamp, somehow managing to retain their balance as they completed their perilous journey.
Any real fear was banished by the sight, and so my dad and I made our way up the isle to the sound of my friends singing from the deck.
Geoff and I said our vows, promising to love and respect each other for who we are and who we might become. We exchanged rings and kissed, and then turned to greet our family and friends as a married couple.
It remained blistering hot for many hours but before the day was through, we were blessed with rain.
