“It’s so important to get a deal”
Sep. 3rd, 2009 12:31 pmFuck you, Obama.
If a deal was so important, why didn't you start the bargaining process on the other end of the spectrum? If you'd started by saying "Single Payer Nationalized healthcare is the only way to go," and THEN started bargaining, you still would have got all the attacks you've had, you still would have the support of a majority of Americans and you would have had more room to bargain. As it is...
FUCK. YOU.
If real health care reform fails to take place (as is likely), I propose that everyone who is outraged by politics as usual form a new party: The Liberals. We shall be FOR the people BY the people and our power will be in listening to our constituents. We will be available to our constituents and will be a voice for our constituents.
It would be even better if there were two new parties, the Liberals and the Neo-Liberals (socialists by another name) as then the US would become a three party system, rather than the one party system that's been drowning (waterboarding?) us.
ETA: Also, we need to have recourse. If a politician does not act in the interest of his or her constituents, or is just proven to be ineffective or generally stupid, there should be a way of ousting them sooner than their term limits - a republic version of parliament's vote of no confidence.
Also, while on the subject of voting, Election day needs to be a national and regional holiday so EVERYONE can vote. It's a constitutional right, so let's not suppress it.
ETA 2: Oh, and advertising and lobbying and campaigning on political matters... Yeah. Strictly regulate how much money can be spent on each. That way it isn't a case of money buying opinion by force.
That was Obama's first real mistake was not dealing with the lobbying issue first thing. Yes, the economy was crap, but who got us there?
