Fuck you, Obama.

If a deal was so important, why didn't you start the bargaining process on the other end of the spectrum? If you'd started by saying "Single Payer Nationalized healthcare is the only way to go," and THEN started bargaining, you still would have got all the attacks you've had, you still would have the support of a majority of Americans and you would have had more room to bargain. As it is...

FUCK. YOU.

If real health care reform fails to take place (as is likely), I propose that everyone who is outraged by politics as usual form a new party: The Liberals. We shall be FOR the people BY the people and our power will be in listening to our constituents. We will be available to our constituents and will be a voice for our constituents.

It would be even better if there were two new parties, the Liberals and the Neo-Liberals (socialists by another name) as then the US would become a three party system, rather than the one party system that's been drowning (waterboarding?) us.

ETA: Also, we need to have recourse. If a politician does not act in the interest of his or her constituents, or is just proven to be ineffective or generally stupid, there should be a way of ousting them sooner than their term limits - a republic version of parliament's vote of no confidence.

Also, while on the subject of voting, Election day needs to be a national and regional holiday so EVERYONE can vote. It's a constitutional right, so let's not suppress it.

ETA 2: Oh, and advertising and lobbying and campaigning on political matters... Yeah. Strictly regulate how much money can be spent on each. That way it isn't a case of money buying opinion by force.

That was Obama's first real mistake was not dealing with the lobbying issue first thing. Yes, the economy was crap, but who got us there?

Nice dream

We were at a new local farm owned by people we met at church, looking around their small but very nice selection of fruits and veggies. They had organic apricots that were as big as peaches (supposedly not ripe, even though the felt soft to me), peaches, nectarines, spinach, chard and all sorts of luscious greens.

While riding, I thought of apple picking season descending on us, and wondered how to use all the apples that would come. And then I thought of the luscious greens. Apple and spinach pie, came to mind. Apples and spinach and cream cheese under a biscuit crust...

Upon waking, I thought that apple-spinach quiche might be very yummy. Yummier still might be apple-kale quiche with cheddar cheese and a pecan flour crust. More greens and apples than eggs and cheese...

Something to try, anyway.

Went to my ob/gyn today. She is made of awesomeness.

Geoff went to his shrink today. He is... not.

Granted, ob/gyn is a pretty straightforward field, so there isn't much chance of hubris showing up in relation to different ways of doing things, but I find that M.D.s in general tend to have a much more dismissive attitude toward things outside of what they were trained in than D.O.s, N.D.'s, Psy.D.s and Ph.D.s do.

That bothers me.

*deep breath*

But... Everyone is welcome their opinions, no matter how silly or misguided they are. ;-D

(My sense of humor has returned, btw. I'm much less likely to bite now. Just so's you know.)

Fish Tacos

Final post for the night, I promise.

Saute 1/4 head purple cabbage, chopped relatively finely in a couple tablespoons oil. Add cumin (approx 1 T), pepper (three dashes), garlic powder (at least 1 T) and 3 or 4 chopped green onions. Cook till cabbage is starting to soften, adding 1 T lime juice and water as necessary. Add 1 fresh green chili, finely chopped, and a grated carrot or two. Cook a few more minutes. Place fillets of white fish (I used orange roughy) on top of cabbage mix. Coat with desired amount of cumin and garlic powder and salt. Turn over and coat other side. Cover, cook for ten minutes or so until it's all flaky and stuff. Break apart and mix into cabbage with spatula.

Serve in softened corn tortillas with lime quarters.

How I actually prepared it )

Could be better, but it was a good quick fix.
