Disney songs
May. 7th, 2008 09:28 pmOkay, I like Disney musicals as much (if not more) than the next girl, but I've gotta say that singing their songs is more than a little grating.
We're singing "Seize the Day" (from Newsies) for church in a couple of weeks, and it is so hard not to roll my eyes when we come to the inevitable, cheesy, overblown finish. In the musical, I'm sure it works (I actually never did see Newsies), what with dancing and choreography and all that jazz, but just standing in front of the congregation and singing "All foooooor oooooonnne, Oooonne for AAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!" three times in fff is just blergh inducing.
Of course, I felt the same way about singing "Circle of Life" last fall or whenever it was. I don't know, maybe I just don't think Disney(TM) and church go together very well... except... I am very tempted to recommend "April Showers" for some spring service sometime. I like that song and think it would work well in a choral setting. Though the storm part of it would be a bit cheesy, too.
Anyway, that's my rant for the evening.
