Well, our computer completely gave up the ghost yesterday. Today when Geoff restarted it, it didn't even start loading, which at least tells us that it's hardware that's the problem, not software. That's something.
So, for the next while, we're using the old windows machine. It's still a broken piece of crap, but at least it mostly works. Just slowly. And evilly (am not a fan of Microsoft).
Unfortunately, that means that all my photos, all my stories and all my things are on the dead computer. I was writing again for the first time inweeks months (gawd, how long has it been?) when the computer died. What I had written was saved, but, well, can't really access it now, can I? :-(
Some good and unrelated news is that the antidepressants are really starting to work and so far the worst of the side effects are nausea if my blood sugar gets too low. So, basically, the pills tell me to eat. That's not so a bad thing. Oh, I guess the other side effect is that when I take a pain pill, I really get knocked out, though I haven't tested that one too much yet.
My shoulder has been killing me lately. I think I really screwed it up when I scrubbed the floor the other week. I went to the chiropractor today, and, combined with a bit of electric shock therapy (that's what it felt like this time, anyway) and a pain pill, I think it's a bit better. Thank goodness. My erector spinae muscles are still so tight they can be plucked, and my lat is feeling very hard done by, but hopefully with a bit of care, they won't get any worse in the next two weeks. And hopefully the burning sensation will go away soon, too.
Good thing is that despite the back pain, I must be getting healthier because my hair is curling up again. I went to bed with damp hair last night, and when I woke up this morning, I looked like a ten-year-old had gone nuts with the curling iron. Ringlets sticking out in random directions highlighted by random tufts of straight hair, usually sticking out perpendicular to my head. It was a great! Well, until I destroyed it in the shower two minutes later. ;-)
And another random good thing - my ferns survived! Whee! They were stomped to the ground last summer when our place was painted, and I feared for them, but they seem to be growing just fine! I am so glad. And my brunnera is still blooming and is beautiful, and the purple huechera are going gangbusters in their respective corners. The spinach seeds I planted last week have already sprouted, and I think that the red chard is also sprouting, though it's growing at a much slower rate. I hope that both are ready to harvest before we leave for Colorado. They should be.
Now I'm off to either catch-up on the flist... or not, depending on Babe. Cheers!
Oh, and one other nice thing... I finally went out and got new drip pans! Whee! It's silly how happy that makes me, but no more smoking, grimy, uncleanable pans! Whee!

Date: 2008-05-20 08:12 am (UTC)Apart from the computer - that sucks. I hope you will find someone to rescue your stuff. (Which reminds me - must to a backup. We bought an external hard disk for the purpose, having had difficulties when the last computer went belly-up.)
Just one question. What are drip pans? (Probably something I know, but by a different name, I imagine.)

Date: 2008-05-20 01:21 pm (UTC)Drip pans (or bowls) are the removable things underneath the electric coils of a stove. I guess they're as much for capturing and reflecting the heat of the coils back up as for catching spills, though.

Date: 2008-05-20 01:32 pm (UTC)I'm ticked off because I was doing my first full length story. I do hope the recovery genies are good.
Also can sympathize with shoulder and back problems. I'm back to analgesics and ice. Ice is our friend. Hope you get some relief soon. It's not fun.
Finally, I wish there was the slightest hint of a curl on my head. I never thought I'd have bed head envy, but there you are.
Looks like another rainy day around these parts. Good for the garden. Hope there's a hint of sunshine in your parts.
