"Sir, what was my father like?"

Even though he had been expecting the question for some time, it still caught him off guard.

He was a werewolf. A beast. His friends were animals. His weak willed 'oversights' made his prefect status a running joke, and the only reason he wasn't publicly mocked was because of Potter and Black. No one wanted to suffer my fate.

"Mr. Lupin," he snapped, "what do you know of Marianna Farsight? Or Marcus Blightly? They are in your year, are they not?"

The boy frowned, confused.

"I didn't know your father. Go ask someone else."

squeee!!! that is perfect! exactly 100 words, and after pondering a teeny bit, I think it's what Severus would've done. he wouldn't have lied and painted a rosy picture for Teddy, but he also wouldn't willingly be the one to break the boy's heart and illusions. well done, and THANK YOU!!!!

I can't see Severus opening up about any of his school time friends/enemies to anyone short of a psychiatrist. It just doesn't seem likely, unless he were drunk or on Veritaserum. But I can't think of him as so heartless as to slur Remus' name to his son, seeing as Remus wasn't Potter...

I take it it's Severus who is speaking to Teddy. Anyway, that would have been something he'd have said. It would even be a kindness on his part, after a fashion, not to tell his real thoughts to the boy.

Yes, it is Severus speaking to Teddy. Judging by PoA, I'd say that he had a fairly large mental/verbal filter going, and could have been a whole lot nastier had that filter ever failed.
