Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] septentrion1970 and [livejournal.com profile] apisa_b! I'm glad to hear your birthdays were nice, and I hope the year ahead is splendiforous for both of you.

I am at home right now because Page has a stomach bug. He woke up throwing up, and Geoff thought at first it was because he'd been poisoned by his plastic lamp shade. Seems it fell down during the night and was resting on the (10 watt) bulb. When Geoff went to investigate this morning, it was stinking up a storm.

However, Page doesn't have any other symptoms for poisoning, besides a headache, and one of his teachers was out sick this last week, so I think it's a bug. :-( Poor guy.

Of course, the silver lining to this is that all the cleaning I had put off for various reasons doesn't need to be done in a rush today, as I've uninvited all the guests who were coming over tonight.

(And the silver lining for Page is he gets to watch "Star Wars" ep. 4 again. And perhaps even "The Incredibles" if I feel very generous, and/or he feels even worse.)

Geoff is going out of town again tomorrow. I'm not happy about this because his company hasn't paid back the previous trip yet (I will trust Geoff is telling the truth about getting the expense report in; he's not stupid). I'm also not happy because, well, he'll be gone. But I suppose this is the natural consequence of having someone at the plant doing his job - he gets freed up to travel. (We were expecting this. We're both still happy to have New Guy there.)

On the writing front, I need to get Word or something. Open Office keeps deleting my work, even when it is saved. I have fortunately been backing the completed chapters up online, but, well, it is frustrating. Especially as I hadn't backed up what little I wrote yesterday (or was it Friday?) because it was just a few paragraphs (I saved it, but... Need to check out dropbox, as I was advised to earlier in the week). I will try uninstalling and reinstalling, but I've had my suspicions about OO ever since it was installed on this computer. I don't think it and Windows 7 get along very well.

*blows raspberry at OO*

On the plus side, I did complete another chapter, and I'm really, truly nearing the end. It's nice to have the words and ideas flowing again. And it's also nice to be able to think out problems, even if that seems to be going a lot slower than it used to.

I know I said I didn't have brain damage from the meningitis, but lately I've been wondering if that's true. I've been so overwhelmed with brain fog for what seems like forever, I honestly don't know whether it's my disease or damage. Everything is so much more difficult now, though. I feel so much dumber, even if it's just that I cannot remember things. I'm still going to assume it's brain fog, as every now and again there are moments of clarity, where thinking and concentrating and remembering are not so taxing, but... *shrug*

I also know there's psychological stuff I need to take care of which could be contributing, so I will be looking into finding a counselor. This isn't just stress, so yoga alone isn't going to cut it, I'm afraid. (Granted, actually doing the yoga would help a bit more than just berating myself for not doing it... ;-)

Wish I could convince myself to do drugs. Popping an antidepressant every day would be a lot easier (and cheaper) than working through whatever is going on. However, I know that drugs only work in the short term for me (assuming I found a drug that worked and didn't give me severe dry mouth), and won't actually solve anything. And I'm tired of putting off the inevitable.

Speaking of, I am slowly looking up ways to become a professional. I made the mistake of looking at an art magazine yesterday, and judging my work against what was presented.

I am such a Sunday painter.

But, well, there's a lot of crap out there, too, and I know from experience that crap can sell. I just have to learn how to be professional, is all, so I can sell my stuff whether it's crap or not.

Besides which, that magazine didn't represent my niche. I'm not really a representational artist anymore. I don't know where I fit in anymore as I haven't been looking at art magazine or the art scene, but I do know representational is not it. Not unless it's commissioned to be.

I'm sure that my pph has caused short term memory issues.while I'm not one to blame everything on that occurance and for years everyone said that it was just from having small kids I know that this is different from when it was just s1and I-so it is possible the meningitis did something.

As for mess I've taken the position that if they make it easier to deal with the issues in the sort term and you can find one that works then there is nothing wrong with using them while you work on things.

Hope page is feeling better and please excuse my lack of punctuation I'm doing this from my phone and it's a pain to change screens constantly unless autocorrect adds it or it ends a sentence Ieave it alone.

Thank you!

Have you tried Libre office, an Open Office spin-off?

I hope you'll get to the bottom of that brain fog. *hugs*

Dropbox is wonderful! Just keep all your work in the Dropbox folder and it automatically saves everything. Much easier than using thumb drives or emailing stuff to yourself.

I hope Page is better soon, poor kid.

Brain fog - hmm. Perhaps you need to research ways of brain training that will help you get round that. *hugs*

No, not a representational artist. Not from what I've seen! (I mean - I love your SSHG drawings, but I was thinking about the paintings!)
