I had my first late-summer allergy attack this morning. So, after getting back from Page's swimming lessons, I took two benadryl and slept for about 5 hours. And I would still like to go back to sleep, even if I don't dare because of ruining the progress I've made on readjusting myself to this time zone. My eyes are still on the itchy/goopy side of normal, unfortunately. And last time I tried, eye drops only increased the itchiness. :-(

Worst thing is, I have no idea what I'm allergic to. It's probably something in the house, though, as they say the pollen level is low outside. (Granted, on the other side of the back fence, there is a weed blooming away, and I think it is something I'm allergic to even if most people aren't.)

I'm also feeling blerghy because it's been unpleasantly hot and humid since I got back. This kind of heat is like a bad date: it's seemingly impossible to escape from the grasping, sticky hands.

Can I go back to sleep now?

(Answer: No. I have to stay awake if only to keep myself hydrated, damn it.)

I told Geoff last night that I would like to move out of the country if Romney/Ryan wins the election. I would have a hard time bearing living in a country where people are so blatantly and determinedly stupid. Fortunately, I don't (really) think that will come to pass; I think Romney's actually trying to lose (like McCain did last election). Either that, or he is stunningly clueless, which doesn't seem likely to me, given his private career success.

The thought of Romney for president wasn't that bad, but Ryan for VP just... It makes me cringe and shudder. Not as much as Cheney did, but close. He's just such a... a... dickhead. A fervently idealistic dickhead. Ah well. But so are most politicians, really.

But I shouldn't end on such a negative note. What's good...?

Payday is today. Due to mental fuzziness, I thought it was next week. That it is today is particularly good news because yesterday was an exceptionally expensive day, what with paying this semester's tuition yesterday, and next Wednesday I have two doctor's appointments.

Another plus side is that it's only a week and a half till Page goes back to school.

My kale is glorious. And I even have one zucchini growing on one of the squash vines. (I swear that's the first female blossom of the entire summer, however. And there have been loads of blossoms!)

Hm... good thing, good things... The dishes are clean?

I guess I'll just have to be a grump. At least I'm good at it. ;-)

I agree with you on Romney. Adding Ryan to his ticket was suicide. I can see that he did it at least partially to court the Evangelicals and conservative Christians who don't think a Mormon can be a Christian, but I just sat there and thought, Mitt, are you insane?

I can see why he did it, for the Christian aspect as well as trying to increase his conservative credentials, but, well, yeah. I think it's suicide as well. And I think it's deliberate.

Meanwhile, I think adding Ryan to the ticket was brilliant! He actually has a great understanding of economics and has ideas for fixing entitlements so that we can keep them for the future instead of having them bankrupt the country--and he can explain his ideas in a way that a non-economist can understand. I certainly don't want to see the U.S. economy go the way of Greece, which is where we're headed given the astronomical level of spending and the build-up of the debt under this administration.

I understand that different people have different ideas for the direction of our country and how to get there. I don't personally find it helpful to assume that people who disagree with me are stupid or hateful.

I don't think Ryan is stupid. I think he's a puppet, but not stupid. I think that anyone who makes less than $250,000 who votes for such blatant big business puppets are not hitting on all cylinders, though. We just had 8 years of experience of Romney/Ryan policies (though possibly slightly more moderate than theirs!), and look where that got us. On the brink of total economic failure.

I understand there are different ways to solve the problems that this nation faces, but I think picking on the vulnerable is hateful. We are NOWHERE NEAR as socialistic and as entitled as the Greeks were. Heck, we are NOWHERE NEAR as socialistic and entitled as Great Britain is.
