Back. Basically.

Welp, the vacation is over, and we are gearing up for the beginning of school around these parts. Thus far, I have spent three days straight shopping for Page's school needs (he's picky about how his pants fit, so there were many returns to be made), but I've also netted a pair of comfy and cute pair of crocs (for much less than that) for me as well as a (non-enameled) cast iron dutch oven to do the family's slow cooking in this fall.
I have also edited the pics from vacation, but I haven't uploaded them to the internets because I haven't yet chosen the best of the sunset pics. Because, lo, there were many sunset pics to be had. :-) (Taken from only two sunsets viewed.)
Speaking of sunset pics, I've discovered, to my chagrin, that my new camera is absolute trash when it comes to low-light photography. The amount of noise in even the 400 setting is shameful. I'm also displeased with its usefulness as a macro, even though its range is supposedly better than my old camera's. I especially don't like how the manual focus offers less variability in focal length than auto (which is in itself rather limited) when in macro setting.
Over all, I am not satisfied with my purchase, unfortunately. Ach well. Hopefully it is a lack of knowledge of how to use it to its fullest that's cramping my style, rather than the instrument itself. (And my photography course starts in a little more than a week, now.)
In better news, my back garden now has a shed. It took a fair bit of effort (with some snappishness) to get the ground to a state where the shed could be erected, but the actual assembly of the shed was a breeze. This morning's task is to organize the shed so that everything will fit in it in a useful manner. This afternoon's task is to reassemble the planter boxes so I have places to move my plants from my generous neighbor's yard. I would love to just stick the plants into the ground, but, well, there's stupidness and frustration and such where the yard finishing is involved, so I need to put the actual replanting on hold for the nonce. (I almost want to sue the landscapers, they did such a bad job, but I don't really have a case by myself. It is that bad. *breathes away the anger*)
Have I mentioned that my gardening neighbor (the one who is letting me store my plants in her yard) is moving? Yep. She's out of here as of the 29th. :-( It will be a sad day for the neighborhood, as she was really active in trying to make this a community rather than just a block of buildings. She will be missed.
Aaaaaannnnd.... Yeah. Sorry I haven't been commenting on your posts lately. I have been reading them (though I probably missed a few while I was gone as I basically refrained from using the internet at all on vacation), but haven't really had words to share. Now that I think about it, I suppose I could have inserted the appropriate emoticons as comments, but, well... You deserve better than that, I think. I think I just got so peopled out that even interacting digitally was a chore. Even lurking was a bit of a strain at my social cortex for a bit... I've obviously since recovered. ;-D
But now I should go. Sheds to organize and lists to make. There's still shopping to do to prepare for first day of (Page's) school on Tuesday. Like, getting him shoes. Meaning, I have to drag him out shopping, :-/ Ach well.
I am sad not to still be on vacation, but it is satisfying to be getting things done. And, I suppose, that is the purpose of a vacation, to put the satisfaction back into the work. So success!
:-D
