So I made an impulse purchase today. Kind of. I can't really call it an impulse purchase, as I've been planning on getting one at some point for years, although I had been telling myself that it would be a reward for having a job, or paying off one/some of our debts or... none of which have happened yet.

It was kinda a really expensive impulse (or any type of) purchase. Like, I'm not getting photoshop or the computer components to support photoshop or a better camera for playing with in photoshop in the next year. At least.

You see, I bought a Kirby.

The thing that sold me was the dirt that came out of Page's mattress. Ew. And to think that our mattress has at least twice that amount of dirt accumulation between the biannual cover cleanings... Also, the sofa and loveseat are ooooold. And our lungs are vulnerable...

So you see, I'm still in the justification stage. (It was a lot, though a hell of a lot less than retail.)

*gulps*

Of course, this means I'll actually have to use it. Well, and get Geoff to use it.

*gulps again*

At least I can be sure it will last for longer than it will take to pay it off - those suckers never die.

Welp, the vacation is over, and we are gearing up for the beginning of school around these parts. Read more... )

I am sad not to still be on vacation, but it is satisfying to be getting things done. And, I suppose, that is the purpose of a vacation, to put the satisfaction back into the work. So success!

So, thinking about it further, I realized that taking the computer course over the summer would just be an excuse to get that little red Asus Eee, rather than the necessity that I was dubbing it. Taking it over the summer would, in effect, cost us $400 more than waiting to take it during the regular school year when I could use the school's fully loaded computers. Rats. Ach well. I will see what online courses the school offers over the summer that work toward my degree that don't require specific software. If they have any that meet that description, I will sign up. Otherwise, I have been lining up activities to keep my summer full.

One such activity (and expense) is redoing the front walkway. It's been a shambles ever since last summer when I thought the landscaping was going to happen all at once. And while the front yard's lack of grass is not my responsibility, I would like to leave the place with a nice looking front as I go off to my parents for three weeks. Or rather, I want to come home to a nice looking front yard after having stayed at my parents gorgeous abode for three weeks. It will help ease the luxury-withdrawal pangs.

Another (cheaper) activity on the docket is stripping the downstairs bathroom of its wallpaper. There's mold/mildew growing behind it, and it can't get put off for much longer. I am not really looking forward to this task, but at least it won't cost anything. We have loads of paint to cover the walls with once they're dry, so it should only cost us time and energy.

I'm loving my new shoes (and orthotics). I realized, though, that I still need something (cheap) in brown to go with my olive pants. *nods* I almost found a pair that would have been just about perfect at Marshall's, but they irritated my heel just a little. And the orthotics didn't fit in them. (I guess I'll have to go down to DSW to see what they've got.)

I just have to remind myself that every pair (or two) of shoes is a massage I'm depriving myself of. *shrugs* At least I'm picky where shoes are concerned. (Though I really wish the gold olive shoes had fit, darn it! They would have been totally worth it!)

Anyway, that's about all the blather I can come up with in a coherent fashion at the moment, so I'll sign off.

Maybe I'll go see if the other Marshall's has that gold pair of shoes in the right size...

So, one of the things I've been wanting lately has been new walking shoes. The sneakers I bought last year are decent, but not great, shoes that also happen to be white. You know, that leather running shoe white? Yeah. They go really well with all my dark pants.

Anyhoo, what with my sciatica acting up so much, I've been really aching (literally and figuratively) for new walking shoes. Mostly it's been figurative (vanity based), so I've successfully squashed the desire. However, I had some time this morning and was already in the neighborhood, so I went to the walking store in our local mall and tried on some shoes. I fell in love with one pair, though I did not get them ($180!) because I really wasn't there to buy anything. Except, well, I did buy something. I walked away with orthotics in my sneakers. Really good orthotics. Such good orthotics that I went over to Payless and bought the $20 pair of shoes that I tried on for the second time and found just as surprisingly comfortable as the last time I tried them on. With the new orthotics, they'll be really nice (stylish) walking shoes!

So, ouch on the bank account (and also ouch on my calves until they adjust to the new positioning), but hopefully this will help my back. And look nice while doing so. ;-)

I have shown restraint in the retail therapy arena, though. Yesterday I did not buy any of the CLEP prep books (I went to the library and checked two out). I did not buy a new purse (didn't find one I liked well enough). I did not buy any lipstick (the colors were wrong, not to mention I have no idea whether they were gluten free or not). And I did not buy the little, red, used Asus Eee PC (2Gb RAM, 160 GB HD, 8.5 hr battery life, 1.66 GHz) I covet. And I will not buy it until I know whether I will be taking the computer technology course this summer or not. Even though it's on sale. (The sales clerk doesn't know when the sale will end, though he said the owner probably won't end it until summer.)

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I will know one way or another the first week of April, when registration begins. So less than two weeks now.
