Another painting finished?
Oct. 29th, 2006 05:26 pmDecisions, decisions...
I've finished the first step of my next painting, but I like how it looks well enough that I'm not sure I want to take it to the next step. The next step will probably look cool, but it will alter the feeling of the piece a lot, and very possibly take away the mystery of the image.
But it would look pretty cool.
Okay, so here's the painting. Unfinished. Maybe.
The color balance is a bit messed up, as the bottom bit is a touch greener, and the grayish bit is a bit purpler (is that a word?), but it gives the general gist.

I have a crudely "digitally enhanced" version of the way the painting would look after (if) I take the next step, but I want your opinions on what you think this one is, first. I want to know if it becomes terribly obvious what it is after the next step, or if it continues to remain... ambiguous?
Just tell me if I'm becoming too demanding wanting your opinions and all. I s'pose I could filter this for only those interested. If you'd like that, let me know. I don't want to bore ya'll.
Cheers!

Date: 2006-10-30 02:11 am (UTC)As to what comes next? Well, it looks like a field with a small hill that looks over a lake with a thunderstorm brewing. At least that's what I see. :)

Date: 2006-10-30 05:02 am (UTC)I see a woman or man's face, I'm leaning towards a woman, and it looks like she's flying, or emerging from something. It does look like she is above a field or something of the sort, and I also think I can see her hands under her face, like she is cupping them or holding something. As to what she is actually doing, I have no idea! Perhaps she is the wind/storm or a tornado or something? *grasps at straws* I'm probably way off, but it was fun trying to figure it out!!

Your use of color lately is excellent.
What I keep thinking of is the relationship between a poem and a story. A good poem (in my view) focuses on one moment of intensity, and using that moment of intensity shows the whole story. That's what this, and the two paintings you've posted before, feel like they're doing to me. They're not focused or showing a clear descriptive thing, but you understand more of the story/scene at hand than if they were.
I'm so impressed.
