I am Elinor Dashwood!

Take the Quiz here!

This morning was foggy, so I tried to take the back way to the school to look at foggy ponds. Well... I did manage to see several foggy ponds, but I didn't quite manage to make it to school in an efficient manner. I had plenty of time, so I wasn't late, but I went fairly far out of the way a couple of times. *shrug* At least I can say I never was really lost. Just didn't know where to turn, is all. Because honestly? I never would have guessed that one-ish lane, overgrown road would turn into a road with a double yellow line.

Now, however, I am basically just waiting for my dentist's appointment which I have to leave for in about 45 minutes. Not quite enough time to do anything with. Especially in my brain-dead state. I'm seriously considering asking Geoff if he'd be responsible for Page tomorrow morning, as I just want to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. That actually might be a need, not a want...

And yes, I do have homework. And yes, I am avoiding it at the moment. I have to figure out what problem I'd be willing to analyze that I'm also willing to share with the teacher and or the class. Not many current problems (that aren't already under some action plan of some sort) come to mind that fit both bills. But I'm sure if I can't find something real, I can come up with something that sounds real. After all, that's what writing fiction is all about.

This book is starting to annoy me, though. Its persistent optimism is grating, seeing as it says everything is in your own power where success is concerned. That's certainly true, but only up to a point. Environment and actions of others DO affect your own efforts toward success, and sometimes, they can't be worked around. Not without betraying yourself and/or something/someone as precious.

But then, I'm in a bitchy mood, and bitchy moods are not necessarily compatible with forced optimism.

I should go. I ought to clean my teeth before I go get them cleaned, and all that. And open house at the school is tonight. yay.

At least tomorrow looks to be a relatively laid-back day. I need one or three of those.

*snort*

Careful, there. There's a shark in them thar woods.

No wonder the moose have all gone to Maine. ;-D

Sent my exchange piece off to the beta. We'll see what she says about it. In the meantime, I should start the quilt block for T.

No other real updates here. After all, it's the end of the world as we know it, and I do feel fine.

So it's snowing, finally. A blizzard, apparently, though it happened after dark, so there wasn't really a way to see whether it was an actual blizzard or not. (I really think that hyperbole has overcome every aspect of American life. Last night, as I looked out the windows, it was snowing and blowing. That does not a blizzard make. A blizzard is when the snow is so thick you can't see through it, and it's getting blown around fiercely. Strong wind with a bit of snow does not a blizzard make. New Englanders have become such wimps about the weather.)

And now I shall go. I want to make myself a cup of hot milk thistle water and stand by the window to watch the swirls of snow blowing around.

It's not a blizzard. Because of that, it's far more beautiful.

To those of you who live in cold, snowy climates, please, for the love of humanity, remember to wipe the snow off the TOP of your vehicle. Especially if it's crusted on. Not only is it courteous, but it's also very likely the law, and a damn good law at that.

The other day I was driving along and a big chunk of icy snow came off the minivan in front of me. I mean it was at least four square feet. Fortunately for everyone involved, the ice caught air and flew over to the side of the road, but I've gotta admit that it shook me to see something that large and hard come that close to my windshield.

Speaking of courtesy, I need to go out and apply more salt and shovel to the walkway. I think that's more pressing than tidying up inside. And at least Geoff excavated the rest of the icy snow from the walk, so I only need to chip away at the ice. Snow gardening is not for the weak of limb, ya'll. (And I call it 'gardening' because getting through the snow is much like digging out compacted soil.)

I'm seriously thinking of asking some of the neighbors if they want to split the cost of a snow blower. We only need one for the cul-de-sac...

Driving in New England is always an adventure, and nothing epitomizes the experience like the center of New England itself, Boston.

Just for fun, look up Mapquest starting at Boylston and Charles Streets, with the end destination being East Cambridge across the Longfellow bridge to the north, northwest. Be sure to zoom in, after you've tracked out what seems a reasonable path.

Hint: Bowdoin. Say it! It's fun!
