Jan. 22nd, 2009 05:59 pmI hate statement cookies. All fortune cookies have devolved into these abominations and it's almost enough to put me off Chinese food. They should not be called fortune cookies unless they have some ridiculous prophecy that goes (or not) with "between the sheets" added to the end of it.
Speaking of Chinese food, New Englanders have incredibly bland taste. The "best" Chinese place in town has good quality food, granted, but we ordered two "spicy" dishes. If Babe had been willing to try them, he would have liked them, they were so mild. Next time I order from there (probably in another two or three years), I'll be sure to ask them to spice it up. A LOT!
Good to see Obama is living up to some campaign promises. BBC got it wrong, though, when reporting on the re-oathing. Justice Roberts flubbed both tries of that line the first time 'round. Obama went with the first version because it at least contained all the words.
I hope that Obama and Castro (whichever one) do talk face to face. It's too bad Obama isn't considering lifting the embargo, though. I wonder why not.
Babe and I had a good time today. He actually wanted to play outside! I had to eat, and he needed to get his snow pants on, but in the end we spent about half an hour pushing each other into the snowbanks around our yard. Next time I will wear tights along with the jeans and snow pants myself. And get the hand warmers going beforehand. And put my gloves on before my coat.
But despite the cold and leaks, it was lots of fun. We both made snow angels (not angles, though some arcs were involved), pelted each other with snow, went down the big snow bank (I went down a few times, trying to firm up the snow enough to be a proper slide) and, as I mentioned, pushed each other down a lot. Babe called it 'whitewashing' though I prudently did not introduce him to proper whitewashing measures, as that's not fun at all.
And then we came inside and had hot cocoa with marshmallows. Which is, after all, the whole point of playing in the snow. *nods*
Actually, I wanted to try out snowshoeing this weekend, but my playmate injured her ankle. I might try it anyway, but... Ah, hell. Might as well! The three of us can go to the park, and I'll let the boys wander while I tromp ahead to find good snow. Or we can go to the school. The fields there are virtually pristine, from what I've seen. But I do want to get out and try to actively enjoy winter this year.
Even though I haven't yet been outside very much this winter, I am enjoying winter quite a bit more this year. It's really beautiful, especially seeing the different palette. The warm tones take on so much heat when surrounded by the cool tones as they are. The evening sun shining on a white house surrounded by shadowy snow is shockingly beautiful.
Also, the icicles this year are fabulous. I love icicles, sparkly daggers of doom that they are.
I have three stories vying for attention at the moment, and as a result, none of them are getting any attention. One is coming to a close, one is in the middle and the other hasn't yet been started. Bah.
Oh, and that's not counting the speech I have to write up before Sunday evening. Oops. The week is kind of getting away from me there. Especially as I had planned to write it and get feedback from you all. Oh well. At least it isn't technically due for a couple of weeks. But I really do need to work on it well in advance. Well, I'll at least write the rough draft before Sunday night. That's all that's needed at that point.
I've been trying to knit lately, and, well, I'm not making the best progress. I wanted to knit my childhood friend a baby blanket, but I think I'll have to quilt her one instead. I'm much handier with sewing needles than knitting needles. Especially since a machine does most of the work when sewing.
This weekend my task is to find out if Geoff has enough miles to get me to San Francisco this summer. I'm pretty sure he does, especially if I book soon.
Assuming that there are miles enough to get there, anyone want to share a room with me? I don't snore (unless I have a cold, in which case I will buy some nose strips), I won't leave puddles on the bathroom floor and I will try to respect your desire for sleep by not talking your ear off. I promise.
Also, can anyone tell me about the art thing going on? I'm half inclined to do some work for it.
So, that's about it.

Date: 2009-01-23 12:08 am (UTC)I am, however, going to take the opportunity to sleep alone. I'll stay up for hours with the girls, but this is going to be my only chance ever to sleep all by myself. I'm SO looking forward to it.

Date: 2009-01-23 06:09 am (UTC)I understand completely, but I just can't afford to do that. I'd rather room with virtual friends than complete strangers, but if necessary, I guess I'll be with strangers in the night...
Right. I'm getting loopy. Time to go to bed.
