We have the definition, but we forgot the word itself. And can't find it in a basic search of dictionary and thesaurus.

Anyway, oh those of superlative vocabularies, do you know the word that means, approximately, "The rippling sheen of light as caused by tree leaves moving in the wind."

Yes, there is an English word for it. Honest.

Thanks in advance!

I'm breaking down and having caffeine this morning. There's so much to do, and it needs to be done by dinner time. And I don't have any energy this morning. *growls*

On the plus side, we're off to the Cape tonight. A church friend has generously opened his family (vacation) house to a group of us, and I jumped at the chance. I've never been down there (it being a whole two hours away) and am really looking forward to it. I have to decide whether to take the bikes or not...

It also looks like I might be going down to DC for Jon's rally. There's enough interest within the church's congregation in attending the rally that the social activities director is looking into chartering a bus for a kamikaze trip down. I'll be doing myself no favors on the health front, but some things are worth a little pain. (Even though I'm not a moderate voice, and rant as immoderately as any fringe lunatic at times.)

My indoor plants are dying, the poor things. I have not been a good caretaker lately.

My art project is coming along. I think I'll take it down with me to the Cape to work on. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in some time and energy today to work on it so as to get it to the point where I can take it down with me without the whole shebang.

I find it very interesting what words are tagged in spellcheck and what it already knows. Like "shebang" it knows, but it doesn't know... some other words I can't remember right now. But I know them! (I won't say "spellcheck" because I'm not sure whether it is technically "spellcheck" or "spell check" or "spell-check".)

And thinking of words, I finished Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer, and need to go off to the library for the next one. I was sold when Meyer actually showed how Jacky would maintain her deception in the face of having to use the loo. On a ship. (But I do NOT look liker her, Ash! In so many ways do I not look like her, even though my face does have a masculine taint to it!)

Right. Enough stalling. Done with my tea, now on to my shower and the rest of the day. Good god, it's almost ten already. Boo.

[livejournal.com profile] borbor_chan provided this link on 'the c-word', which is... amusing in a messed up kind of way. Messed up because a lot of what is said is absolutely true.

And then, right below [livejournal.com profile] borbor_chan's post, [livejournal.com profile] shiv5468 had this gem: http://twitpic.com/1bxol1

I guess it's just that kind of a morning, eh?

"Bellicose orients 'prone to fighting' toward an individual while belligerent refers to an organized body, a national or political entity - a person is bellicose, a nation is belligerent."

I didn't, although I've mostly used it properly so far...

So, am I the only one who didn't get the joke when JK described Severus as sallow, not knowing that the word sevous means tallow (which is kind of like a pale version of sallow...)?

Also, sevidical means to speak cruel and harsh words?

JK is obviously a word (and etymology) junky.

And completely unrelated, a pregnatress is female power that generates or gives birth to something...

savethewords.org is cool, btw. I've already adopted sevous, sevidical and auturgy (self-action, independent activity... something that is a very good thing to train into children!)

Okay, because of a spelling error, I've come up with a new word. The thing is, I haven't decided it's meaning yet. Want to help me out?

The word is: apoogy.

I'm pretty sure it's a verb, though I won't rule out adjective, or even adverb. I'm biased against nouns for this word, however.

What say you?

=)

Oh, and those drabbles might take a little while (they are not forgotten!). They kicked my muse out of her drunken stupor and I'm finally working on SMHC again. Of course, if you want the drabbles...

Hello to new friends!  I would give you a long summary of who I am and such, but I'm really bad at that sort of compression.  Let's just say I'm American, live in the frigid Northeast and have a wonderful husband whose initials will vary between DH (Dear, Dastardly, Devoted, etc. Husband) and GS (Good Soul) as well as a very young son whom I call Babe (who has just come down with chickenpox 3 weeks before his vaccination, dammit!).

Storywise, I am posting (pending beta approval) an SS/HG/RL marriage law fic (really, it's a parody) titled Marry a Choice.  I'm proud of it.  It's very silly, in a black, twisted, melodramatic kind of way.  I'm also writing the same story from Snape's POV and posting here under Snape's Journal.  We'll see if other stories pop up as the muse strikes.

Basic, really.

What do I have to fear? )

People in New England obviously suffer from gephyrophobia - fear of bridges, judging by the lack of bridges to cross the numerous rivers and streams.  As a side note, here's the spellchecker's suggestions for the phobias listed.

Spell what? )
